A sewing project for christmas.

Now,  usually, I am not a hug fan of using patterns, but it does make it nice to sew with some direction.  I used 2 McCalls patterns,  one for a girls dress and one for a doll dress. I altered the doll dress to make sure it matched the girls dress.  Here are some quick tips for starting sewing.

1. Read the instructions and ensure you are using the right material for the pattern. For beginning sewers cottons are easy to work with and relatively cost-effective.
2. When starting an expensive pattern/material, try a clearance fabric first to ensure it works out.
3. When changing stitches or stitch length, use the leftover remnants between the cut fabric to ensure your tension is right.  Check back for  some other exciting ideas for using fabric remnants.
